SoMerch

Connect SoMerch to your AI assistant

Let ChatGPT or Claude browse the SoMerch catalog, look up products, and help you put together a request — all from your assistant.

MCP (Model Context Protocol) is the open standard that lets an AI assistant call an external service directly. Connecting the SoMerch MCP server gives ChatGPT or Claude live access to our corporate merch catalog: product search, product details, price per quantity, available branding methods, production lead times, ready-made merch plans, and the ability to send a quote request to our team.

What your assistant can do once connected

  • Search the catalog in plain language — “find eco-friendly notebooks under 10 EUR per unit”.
  • Pull real product details: materials, colours, sizes, packaging and branding options.
  • Return the correct price for your quantity, using the actual price brackets rather than a single list price.
  • Plan a full gift set for a headcount — for example a 250-person onboarding pack split across three items.
  • Flag when your quantity is below a product's minimum order quantity, before you commit to it.
  • Send a quote request to the SoMerch team without leaving the chat, including products, quantities and branding.

Which assistants are supported

Any MCP-capable client can connect. The two most common today:

  • ChatGPT — via Settings → Connectors → Advanced (Developer mode connectors).
  • Claude — via Custom connectors, on plans where custom connectors are available.
  • Other MCP clients (Cursor, VS Code extensions, in-house agents) — add the same URL as a remote MCP server.

Copy this and paste it into your assistant when it asks.

Connect from ChatGPT
Takes about a minute.
  1. Open ChatGPT → Settings → Connectors → Advanced and turn on Developer mode. Read the risk notice shown there.
  2. In the chat composer's + menu, enable Developer mode.
  3. Click Add sources, then Connect more.
  4. Give the connector a name (e.g. "SoMerch") and paste the MCP URL from above.
  5. Save, then ask ChatGPT to use SoMerch — for example, "Find eco-friendly notebooks on SoMerch."
Connect from Claude
Available on Claude plans that support custom connectors.
  1. Open Claude → Custom connectors.
  2. Give the connector a name (e.g. "SoMerch") and paste the MCP URL from above.
  3. Enable the connector from the chat composer, then ask Claude to use SoMerch — for example, "Show me SoMerch collections for onboarding gifts."

Troubleshooting

I don't see where to add a connector.
In ChatGPT, custom MCP connectors live behind Developer mode in Settings → Connectors → Advanced. In Claude, they appear under Custom connectors and are only available on plans that support them.
The assistant answers but never uses SoMerch.
Enable the connector for the current chat from the composer, then name it in your prompt — “use SoMerch to find…”. Assistants only call a tool when the request clearly needs it.
A product I expected isn't in the results.
Try the generic product name instead of a brand or internal code, and drop tight filters like colour or price first. If it still doesn't appear, the item may not be published in the catalog yet — ask us and we'll check.
Can my team manage content through this URL?
No. This is the public, read-and-request server. Staff administration runs on a separate authenticated MCP server with its own credentials.

Frequently asked questions

Is connecting SoMerch to ChatGPT or Claude free?
Yes. The SoMerch MCP server is free to connect and use. You only pay for merch you actually order, and any subscription cost stays between you and your AI provider.
Do I need a SoMerch account first?
No. You can browse and plan straight away. When you send a quote request, we create an account for your email address if you don't have one yet, and email you a confirmation of the request.
What can the assistant see about me?
Only what you tell it in the chat. The public server exposes catalog data and the quote request tool — it does not read your existing orders, files or account data.
Can I place an order directly through the assistant?
You can submit a quote request with products, quantities and branding. A SoMerch consultant then confirms feasibility, final pricing and timing before anything goes into production.
Does it work in German and French?
Yes. Ask in German or French and the assistant receives catalog content in that language, including product names, descriptions and branding terminology where translations exist.
