What Zero Waste Week is
An awareness campaign started in the United Kingdom in 2008 and run in the week beginning the first Monday of September. It asks individuals, households and organisations to look at what they throw away and commit to reducing it. It is a consumption-reduction campaign, not a recycling one: the ask is to buy and produce less, not to dispose better.
Should you do merch for it?
No, in any material. Switching to bamboo or recycled cotton does not resolve the contradiction, it dresses it better. A reusable bottle handed to someone who already owns three is a waste item with a longer fuse.
What can be offered instead is operational. A merch programme wastes in four predictable places: overordering, dead stock from retired designs, apparel bought without collecting real sizes, and packaging. Producing on demand from stored stock removes the first two, collecting sizes before production removes the third, and printing in house keeps short runs viable.
What to do instead
