Start of spring 2026: corporate merch and seasonal ideas
A season rather than an occasion, which is exactly why it works. The widest latitude and the fewest risks in the calendar, with six months of use afterwards.

Quick answer
The March equinox falls on 20 March 2026. Nothing is exchanged and nobody is being honoured, which makes this the lowest-risk activation of the year: you are marking a change in the weather, not making a claim about anyone. Produce something genuinely seasonal that stays in use until September, order in mid-January, and keep the spring iconography off it.
What the start of spring is
The March equinox is the point where day and night are roughly equal and the season formally turns across the northern hemisphere. It moves between 19 and 21 March. It is not a holiday anywhere in Europe and there is no tradition of giving anything.
What is real is the behaviour change around it. Outdoor events restart, commuting patterns shift, the exhibition and event season opens, and companies start planning summer activity. In Bulgaria the same transition is marked with an actual object, the red and white martenitsa given on 1 March, which is the one genuinely native spring ritual in the footprint.
For a company, that makes spring a launch point rather than a gifting occasion. It is also the date to redirect a client toward when the occasion they originally asked about turns out to be one nobody should be printing for.
Merch ideas that hold up
A cotton apron and a wooden serving or barbecue set. Heavyweight cotton, screen printed in one position in a single colour, paired with a solid wooden set. It carries an internal event in April or May and then stays in people's kitchens for years, which is a far better return than anything designed to be looked at once. It also ships well to home addresses for teams that are not gathering in one place.
Items that get six months of use. A reusable bottle in a spring colourway, a packable tote, a lightweight cap. The test is simple: would someone use this in July? If not, it is a March object and it will be gone by April. Whatever you produce now has a runway almost nothing else in the calendar gets.
A colourway change on something you already run. Rather than developing a new product, take a core item from your internal store and produce it in a seasonal colour. It resets the range, gives people a reason to order again, and skips the entire development cycle. This is usually the fastest and cheapest version of a spring activation.
What to avoid
- Literal spring iconography carrying the whole concept. Blossom, sunbursts and green gradients are the default, and they are why most spring merch is indistinguishable. A confident colour shift does more work than any motif.
- A printed date on the item. The value here is the six months of use afterwards, and a date kills it.
- Confectionery or alcohol landing in Poland or Spain during Lent without checking the recipient list first.
- Treating it as a gifting occasion. There is no honouree, so an item presented as a gift has nothing to attach itself to.
When to order
Mid-January for a 20 March launch. Standard production runs about eight business days, decoration adds roughly seven to fifteen, and EU delivery takes two to six business days depending on destination.
Two things block February in 2026. Upstream factory closures around Lunar New Year run through the second half of the month, which affects anything with imported components. And the carnival regions of Germany, the Netherlands and Belgium are effectively shut for several days in mid-February, which removes working days from both approvals and transit.
If you are running an outdoor event rather than a launch, you have more room. Aim to have stock in hand by early April rather than on the equinox itself.
How SoMerch handles it
SoMerch sources the base products, prints and produces them in house, and can hold the run in our warehouse so the same items ship out for each event through spring and summer rather than all at once in March. Colourway changes on items you already run are the quickest route, and we can quote both options side by side with landed cost and arrival windows per country.
Ask us for a spring colourway on something you already run, rather than a new product.
