Hanukkah 2026: corporate merch and gift ideas

Quick answer

Hanukkah 2026 begins at sundown on Friday 4 December and runs eight nights to Saturday 12 December. This is a workforce inclusion occasion, not a market-wide activation, and it is not interchangeable with Christmas. If your organisation has no members of the community, the right output is a greeting and nothing produced. If it does, order in August.

What Hanukkah is

Hanukkah is an eight-night Jewish festival of light and rededication, marking the rededication of the Second Temple. A candle is added to the menorah on each successive night. In the religious calendar it is a minor festival, and its gift-giving prominence came from proximity to Christmas rather than from its own liturgy.

It is not a general-population occasion in any of the nine markets. The largest communities in the footprint are in France, Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands. The date follows the Hebrew lunar calendar and can fall anywhere from late November to late December, so confirm it before scheduling anything.

Merch ideas that hold up

Candles and a holder of keepable quality. Light is the festival, so handle it literally rather than symbolically. A well-made holder and candles CLP-labelled for the destination market, in packaging that borrows nothing from December's other palette.

Eight numbered sleeves in one shipper. Eight small core-range items in printed sleeves numbered one to eight, packed in a single box and opened one per night. Eight nights is a structure most sets ignore, and using it costs nothing more than a print change.

Certified kosher confectionery in a printed sleeve. Only where the certification is real, with full allergen documentation and no pork or shellfish in any component. An unverified kosher claim is worse than making no claim at all.

What to avoid

  • A Christmas set recoloured blue and silver. This is the defining failure in the category and recipients spot it from across the room.
  • Menorah or Star of David imagery on anything disposable, floor-facing or food-waste adjacent.
  • Mixing Hanukkah and Christmas imagery in one item. Two well-made sets beat one merged object that serves neither list.
  • Alcohol as the default, given mixed lists and observance.
  • Assuming the date. Confirm the lunar date before quoting.

When to order

August for stock and print, artwork approved in September, kitting booked in October. Because the festival starts on 4 December in 2026 rather than mid-month, the deadline lands earlier than most December planning assumes, and a set arriving on the 14th has missed it entirely. Production runs about eight business days, decoration adds seven to fifteen, EU transit two to six. Numbered sleeves are set up per recipient rather than per batch, so November is too late.

How SoMerch handles it

We source and print the components in house, produce the sleeves and boxes, kit the sets and ship to offices and home addresses across the EU, with delivery dates set per country. Where a list is mixed, we can price two parallel sets from one print system.

Send us the recipient list split by observance and we will come back with both sets, landed cost per head and the delivery dates per market.
