What Global Love Day is

Global Love Day was created in 2004 by The Love Foundation, a US non-profit, and is held every 1 May to promote unconditional love and acceptance. It has no public holiday status anywhere, no exchange ritual, and little recognition beyond the organisation that runs it. In 2026 it falls on a Friday and shares the date with International Workers' Day, a public holiday across most of continental Europe.

Should you do merch for it?

No. Nobody is being honoured and no gift is already changing hands for a company to join, so anything produced here has to invent its own reason. Invented reasons read as marketing.

The practical problem is blunter. On 1 May, offices in Germany, France, Spain, Poland, Austria, Belgium and Bulgaria are closed. A desk drop arrives at an empty desk, and courier networks are down across the same window.

There is a tone problem as well. Love framing between an employer and an employee overstates the relationship, and most people will read it exactly that way.

What to do instead

Move the budget to a date with a convention behind it. Employee Appreciation Day does the same job in March with an audience that recognises it. For technology teams, Geek Pride Day on 25 May is the stronger May option and sits well clear of the holiday.
