Administrative Professionals' Day recognises administrative staff, executive assistants, receptionists and office managers. It started in the United States in 1952 as National Secretaries Day and has been renamed and broadened since.

The date is rule-based rather than fixed, and in 2026 the two rules in circulation give different answers. The official definition, the Wednesday of the last full week of April, puts it on 22 April 2026. The looser version many calendars use, the last Wednesday in April, puts it on 29 April 2026. Neither is obviously wrong, so check which one your organisation and your market run on before the invitations go out. Adoption across Europe is uneven: it is well established in the Netherlands, growing in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Belgium and France, and largely unknown in Poland, Spain and Bulgaria.

Worth noting who the recipient usually is. This is the office manager, which is to say the person who normally orders everyone else's gifts. One day a year, somebody else has to order theirs.

• Landed value below roughly eight euros. On an appreciation day, a cheap gift quantifies the appreciation.
• Flowers as the entire gesture. Dated, and gendered by default.
• Anything referencing coffee-fetching, phone-answering or holding it all together. The joke lands as a description of the job.
• Logo-heavy items. This is a gift, not a uniform.
• Gendered product selection of any kind. The occasion was historically framed as Secretaries Day and that history is exactly why this matters.
• If the organisation is cutting administrative roles at the same time, do not run the date at all.

When to order

First week of March. Personalisation adds seven to ten days on top of standard production, and variable-data engraving needs the full name list locked before the run starts, because every piece is a separate setup.
